After signing up for Uber, I added my credit card to my Uber account but I also wanted to use Uber Cash just to be on the safer side because there were times when my credit cards we're maxed out and when I tried to book a ride my card got declined. In order to avoid such a situation I thought it would be a nice idea to always have money in my Uber Cash account so that even if my credit card gets declined, I'll still be able to book a ride using Uber Cash.
At first, I guess I added $25 to my Uber Cash account but believe it or not when I tried to book a ride using the Uber app on my iPhone, it charged my credit card instead of using the money I had in my Uber Cash balance. I was wondering why my credit card got charged even though I had enough funds in my Uber Cash balance. I thought it might be a one time error but to my amazement it happened again. Now I really got concerned and wanted to figure out how to resolve this and finally I figured out how to change the default payment method to Uber cash. I thought it would be nice to write an article which will help others who are in the same boat. Please keep in mind these steps are for changing your default payment method to Uber Cash for your personal profile. This article is based on my experience using the Uber app in the United States. Uber Cash may not be available in all countries or regions. In this article, I'm going to provide step-by-step instructions on how to change the default payment method from credit card to Uber cash in the Uber app on your iPhone.
Tap on the 3 horizontal lines symbol at the very top left corner of the screen.
Once you tap on the three lines symbol, a side bar will appear on the left-hand side of the screen.
From the side bar, tap Payment.
On the next screen, you will see a tab for ride profiles.
Tap Personal.
After you tap on personal, under preferences you will see two options. One is for email receipts and other one is for default payment. If your default payment method is not Uber Cash, you should see Master Card, Visa, Discover etc depending on which credit card or debit card you are using.
Tap Default Payment.
Under the Payment Method, you will see your credit card as well as Uber Cash. If your credit card is the default you should see a check mark next to it and below that you will see Uber Cash listed there without a check mark. You will also be able to see your Uber Cash balance.
Tap Uber Cash to make it the default.
Now you should be able to see Uber Cash listed under default payment and it should take money out of your Uber Cash balance when you book a ride next time instead of charging your credit card for the ride.
